Someone on the previous post asked me about process...
Usually I sketch an idea out *really* rough on paper, then scan it into the computer. The sketch is mostly for composition, and for feeling - the roughness of the sketch gives me just enough to let my imagination fill in the rest, which leaves the idea malleable throughout the whole process. From there, I draw over the sketch in Photoshop - if it's a somewhat gritty image, like this one, I use a rough brush - if it's a very clean image, like 'Girl in Peril,' I use a generic round brush. Then I paint in a general color scheme - just solid colors. That was all I needed for the 'Trick Or Treat' image, but normally I go from there to Painter, where I use the painting tools to give the image shading and texture (I imagine it probably goes without saying, but all of this is done with a Wacom tablet, so it's all hand-drawn via the computer - don't ever try to do this with a mouse). I then take it back to Photoshop, tweak the colors, and add the final effects. For example, lately I've been overlaying a paper texture to make the images look more organic. I scanned a blank piece of printer paper, and pumped up the contrast to get more grain, then I put it over the image as a multiply layer - the effect makes a big difference in the finished product.
Great! This is just how I feel during an ordinary business day. I posted your picture at my livejournal, I hope you don't mind? (right here: http://010477.livejournal.com/283304.html)
