Sketch Blog Hiatus/George Bush Adventures
I'm not doing a sketch today, and possibly tomorrow either, because I'm resurrecting a little pet project I started almost a year ago, after I had a really entertaining dream about an old school 8-bit RPG (a la "Final Fantasy," "Dragon Quest," etc) where you played as George Bush and tried to save the world from terrorists and homosexuals. Determined to make it a reality, I found some really cool Japanese software that lets you create your own old-school RPGs, and I began tinkering around with it in my spare time. But like most of my pet projects, it fell to the back burner and remained neglected for many months... until now. I'm going to put a little time in on this here and there and see if I can get at least a demo together. I have the first two areas done: Inside and outside Bush's Texas ranch. I'm currently working on the protest scene outside the ranch, which is pretty complicated. In the meantime, here are some in-development screenshots of the soon-to-be-legendary GEORGE BUSH SUPER ULTIMATE ADVENTURE!!

Oh don't worry, Cheney will be a playable character. His weapon, of course, is his hunting rifle, and his special ability is that he can torture enemies for information before he kills them (of course, it never gets him any results).
Rob, what method are you using the make the old school graphics? Do you already have a library of images? Or do you have some 8-bit debabilizer converter or something? Or are you just taking larger images and resampling them down to small sizes with a limited color palette?
The program - RPG Maker XP - comes with a library of pre-made graphics. However, they're all of medieval villages and wizards and goblins and shit like that, so I've been using and customizing as many of their bits and pieces as possible (common things like bushes and fences and tables), but also creating a great deal of custom graphics. RPG Maker's graphics are actually half the size of what you see here - I've been doubling everything in size to make the game more vibrant, and also to give it that old-school pixelated look. So, I create all the graphics at half size, with careful, pixel art style (it's harder than it looks) - and then double them to add to the blockiness. Making the graphics is the tedious part, I'd be done by now if there weren't so many elements to build.

Oh put a part in the game where you have to make a speech and everytime you mess up he slurs his words! The game mechanic could be like a simple rhythm game. Just an idea.

I'm not from the US and something bothers me. If everyone hates Bush (which is the impression I get form everything), why is he still the president (actually, why is he the president for the 2d time)?

As you mention religion, there's one more thing I'd like to ask. I have some observations on people from my country, so I'm curious about Americans too.
Are people in the US religious because they are believers, or are they superstitious?

I don't envy you on the pixel-poking. I got my start in games over 10 years ago and had to reduce all graphics in each room down to the same 64 color palette. I had a great work stress-related dream once where I was running from a giant robot and kept reducing the colors in myself so I could run faster. Eventually I took too many out and my image quality began to suffer. I got caught by the robot who promptly started ripping my limbs off.
Your game is fan-fucking-tastic. Are you going to let us play a beta version?

Wow, this is fucking fantastic rob! I've been tinkering with RPG Maker for years and this is probably one of the most impressive games yet! Do tell how far you are in making the game, or maybe even provide a demo?
