Miscarriage

One thing I've learned about myself from doing Sketchblog is that I actually don't like to just sketch. When I see things in my head they're colorful and very detailed, so sketching them - quickly, without color or detail - just doesn't feel right. When I did this sketch a few months ago, it didn't satisfy me because it was so quick and dirty, while the image in my head was much more elaborate. So, I decided to revisit it, and bring it up to its full creepiness potential:

Here's the process for those interested:

Step 1 (sketch)
Step 2 (base color)
Step 3 (skin texture and lighting)
Step 4 (details)
Step 5 (final)

Eyeball(oon)

I started this the day after Halloween, hence A) the macabre theme, and B) the lack of updates. I wasn't content to leave it as a mere sketch, and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. I think I have a weird obsession with gouged out eyeballs.

UPDATE: - I went back for a second pass and cleaned up some little details here and there so it would look better at full print size.

Happy Halloween, From The Zombified Decapitated Head of Dick Cheney.

Today's sketch is not a sketch at all, but rather a little Halloween decoration I put together. I saw a surprisingly well-modeled Dick Cheney rubber mask whilst shopping for Halloween decorations at my local Party City (which, incidentally, is much more of a stressful hellhole than any kind of party on the weekend before Halloween). I immediately decided that my Halloween would not be complete without some sort of decapitated Dick Cheney head. I found a cool-looking plastic skull at Target, and picked up a plastic brain, and with the help of red paint, scissors, super glue, plastic bags, fire, and Play-Doh, The Zombified Decapitated Head of Dick Cheney Halloween Candy Platter was born!

(As someone in the comments pointed out, this creation could also be described, on a number of different levels, as a Dickhead.) Click to enlarge:

I think maybe for the trick-or-treating kids who knock on my door, every fun-sized Snickers bar they pluck from Dick Cheney's severed head is going to include a terrifying horror story called The Most Evil Man Who Ever Lived. Here's another view:

And it seemed more than fitting to make a card out of it, so here you go (click for full-sized version):

I love Halloween.

Trick Or Treat

In the spirit of the season, and continuing my current interest in simple shapes and colors, I whipped up this invite for a friend's Halloween party (click to enlarge):
