rob sheridan is an art director, writer, designer, illustrator, photographer, director, and editor, among other things. he currently resides in the pacific northwest with his wife stephanie, their new baby boy io, their dog momo, and their cat jean-luc (who has a secret life as a tiktok celeb).
he is known as a pioneer of glitch art, helping bring the genre into the mainstream and inspire a new generation of glitch artists with his glitch work on nine inch nails' with teeth (2005), nine inch nails' year zero (2010), the social network soundtrack (2010), and how to destroy angels' welcome oblivion (2013).
he is co-founder (along with his wife stephanie) and cco of glitch goods, a fashion lifestyle brand featuring his original glitch art and designs.
he has been one of the foremost technoprogressive artists in the new field of synthography (AI-involved art), pushing the boundaries of the medium as part of the new unreal art movement with his surreal sci-fi/horror visual storytelling and the ongoing interconnected worldbuilding of his nightmAIres series. he has been counseling other professional artists/creators/companies on how to adapt to and thrive in the future of AI-enhanced creativity, and speaking at conference keynotes on the subject.
his latest synthography work can be found on his instagram and tumblr.
his meat gala fashion-horror art series went viral in the early days of AI imagery, providing the world with an early showcase of AI's potential for unique horror art. he is currently working with a sculptor on limited edition hand-painted meat gala busts. he created the first alternate reality story co-created with artificial intelligence: v i i r is a cosmic horror narrative experience incorporating imagery and ideas generated with synthography. his nightmAIres horror art has expanded to apparel, posters, and holiday greeting cards, with a narrative art book in the works.
he is the writer/creator of high level, an original sci-fi adventure graphic novel published on dc/vertigo, and he co-produced an original soundtrack album for the book with a limited vinyl release.
he was the creative director for nine inch nails and trent reznor for 15 years, defining the band's distinct visual identity and creating award winning package designs, stage productions, media campaigns, music videos, and more.
he co-created the extensive dystopian mythology of year zero, an award-winning immersive alternate reality game experience that was picked up by hbo for a miniseries produced by bbc america and bender brown productions.
he was nominated for two grammy awards for special edition album package design for nine inch nails' ghosts i-iv and the girl with the dragon tattoo soundtrack.
he designed visuals, videos, and stage production for the band how to destroy angels, and performed with them in their live shows.
he was creative director at beats music streaming music service, which later became apple music, and is an inventor of multiple apple-owned software patents.
as a teenager he popularized the first mainstream internet meme, the dancing baby.
he is passionate about using art as activism for progressive causes, and has personally raised tens of thousands of dollars for causes related to social justice, climate change, and election reform. during the coronavirus pandemic, his glitch goods face mask designs helped partner threadless raise over $500,000 for medshare charity. during the 2020 us election he participated in remember what they did, a campaign by artists united for change that put sheridan's anti-trump design work on billboards in swing states across the country alongside acclaimed political artists such as shepard fairey and robin bell.
he is currently developing several tba writing and visual projects.
